To Samantha Hay,
Hi, my name is Son and my friend Caroline like your books, she wants to ask a question to you. Caroline ask you if you can make 100 books about Undead Pets to her. She love Undead Pets. Can you give her some advice to her about how to write books. Can you give her your autograph? Caroline is from Sweden and I am also from Sweden. In Sweden Undead Pets is called Zombiedjur.  Love, from Caroline and Son from Sweden

Och de fick svar från Sam med många goda råd om hur man blir författare:
Dear Son and Caroline,
Halla!

Thank you for your lovely email. I am so happy that you like my Undead Pets books. Fantastiskt!

I would love to write more books in the series. They are such fun to write. At the moment there are only eight books in the series, but you never know - maybe in the future... That would be great! What sort of animal would you like there to be? I always thought a spider or a reptile might be fun!

Do you have pets? I have a lot of pets - a cat called Martin. Two rabbits called Todd and Fluffy and a goldfish called Silver. My pets were the inspiration for some of the animals in the books. My cat is very like Pickle. He is very scared of everything - loud noises, windy weather, even plastic bags. He especially hates the ironing board. I don't know why! Our goldfish is quite tough. We used to have several fish, but we think he probably ate the others, so he is a bit like Fizz. And our pet rabbit Fluffy looks just like Fluffy in Undead Pets - but hopefully she won't get eaten by a fox! I think pets are great to write about, because they all have such different personalities. That was something that I always thought a lot about before starting to write each book. How could I make the pets different, and funny and interesting.

I am so glad that Caroline would like to be a writer, too. It is a great job. I started writing stories when I was about seven years old. I kept them in notebooks. I still do that, now. There's always a notebook in my handbag, and when I am waiting for someone - perhaps in a coffee shop, or when I go to collect my children from school, I scribble story ideas, and drawings in the notebook. I don't illustrate my own books, but I like to draw some of the scenes I want to write about. It helps me to picture what I want to say.

The best advice I could give on how to become a writer is to keep writing! That might sound silly, but some of the stories I have had published recently, came from ideas I had when I was a child! So always write everything down, you never know when it might be useful.

Another good idea is to read a lot of different books. Sometimes they can inspire you to come up with your own stories. Also - it can be a good idea to share your stories with other people - read them aloud to your friends and family, and see what they think of them. This can help you to make your stories even better! I still do that. Sometimes I read my stories to my children and I find out whether they think other children will like them. My son is eight and my daughter is 12, so they are used to hearing a lot of my stories!

Never give up. If you want to become a writer, you will. And also there are lots of other exciting ways to tell stories. You can draw stories, act out stories or even sing them!

I am so glad that you enjoy reading Undead Pets. It makes me really happy to hear that! Getting emails and letters from readers is wonderful!

Thanks again for writing and I hope you continue to enjoy Undead Pets.

 Lycka Till!  Love Sam x
